The BC Sustainable Campuses Conference
Brought to you by the BC Campus Climate Network and the Sierra Youth Coalition
Presented by the TRU ECO Club
Where: Thompson Rivers University, Kamloops BC
When: Friday February 8th - Sunday February 10th, 2008
Why: This gathering enables high school, college and university representatives to come together to unite the BC Campus Climate Network and build capacity on each campus. Through workshops, roundtable discussions, planning sessions and strategic direction setting, the BC Sustainable Campuses Conference creates a forum to:
- empower campus community members to build new and more effective sustainability initiatives in BC
- share organizing experiences: successes, challenges and new directions
- learn about specific sustainability initiatives in BC
- plan for future collaboration between campuses through the BC Campus Climate Network
The conference will be a great opportunity to learn about how a campus can integrate sustainability into its curriculum, culture, and operations. You will develop the skills you need to run a successful student group, initiative or campaign, meet people from across the province who are interested in similar issues, have a bucketload of fun and get inspired!
This conference was held in conjunction with 5 Sustainable Campuses Conferences, hosted by local campus groups in collaboration with the Sierra Youth Coalition, and all happening across the country between January 18th and February 10th.
How Much: $50, includes all sessions, 5 meals, accommodation in the form of billeting (guests will be staying with students in the area or in a shared open space). At this time we can only offer subsidies to high schoool students, thanks to support from the Sierra Club BC and the Green Street Youth Engagement Program (email emily@sierraclub.bc.ca for more info). We will keep post secondary students posted on travel subsidies as fundraising progresses. Participants are encouraged to become members of the Sierra Youth Coalition (SYC) when they register for the conference. Membership is $20 annually, and offers core support to the organization, allowing us to continue supporting students institutionalize sustainability.
Need help with conference fees or travel? On SYC's Conference Page you will find a Departmental Fundraising Letter that can help you get support from your faculty to cover costs.
