Overview

For the back to school BBQ, we wanted to raise awareness about TRU ECO and the new project we are working on this year- the goBEYOND campaign.

We had a home made, 4 by 8 foot recycled wood display board made, and in the center we pinned up a globe that was painted on a sheet, and got people to pin up a piece of paper with their environmental personal challenge on it.

On the sides we had info about TRU eco’s past events and on the other we had info about the goBEYOND personal challenges.

We also had a clipboard with a signup sheet so that people could sign up for emails in addition to or instead of writing up a personal challenge.

We had almost 100 people write a challenge relating to food, home or transportation on the board, and about 75 give us their contact info on the sign up sheet.

For next year

To book a table at the back to school BBQ, you have to go to the students union office in the independent center, and fill out a form. It cost $150 this year, which I heard is more than last year. The table is assigned to you and you can put whatever you want on it. We found doing something interactive like getting people to write down a personal challenge was most engaging.
