Campus Climate Network
From ClimateNetworkWiki
Universities and colleges are places where we can make change happen. We have diverse expertise, we have an enormous economic impact, including employment and purchasing power, we support research, innovation and nurture new ways of thinking. We create linkages between community, government and the private sector, and most of all - we are institutions of teaching and learning, shaping our future through tomorrow's leaders.
To realize this potential the students, staff, faculty, and administration of the university community must work together with the civil society groups, government, and progressive businesses in the regional community.
The BC Campus Climate Network is coming together to make this happen.
The BC Campus Climate Network is a partnership of climate change and sustainability organizations at high schools, colleges, universities and other education institutions across B.C. We connect education institutions and empower them to help B.C. go beyond climate-neutral as a global leader in climate change planning, policy, and practice.
Our History
On July 8th, 2007, 14 students from 5 institutions in BC came together to figure out how to connect our schools. From that the BC Campus Climate Network was formed. Since that day the Network has gathered momentum, building from 5 campuses to over 15. Through out this period of growth we have stayed true to our core value: that our direction and goals are determined by YOU, the student leaders in BC. And we maintain our commitment to going beyond climate-neutral. Read more about Our History
Our Goals
We envision institutions of higher learning working together to help BC solve its climate crisis.
Our mission is to connect institutions of higher learning, enhancing their ability to harness the unique capacity of the academic environment to bring about climate change solutions.
Our role is to ensure collaboration in the following areas:
- Information sharing
- Administrative policy and securing commitment
- Government and institutional lobbying and funding
- Awareness and engagement
- Resource and coalition building
- Integrating research and education
Our Projects
goBEYOND is the primary project of the Campus Climate Network. It aims to unite passionate students across the province and to educate, inspire, engage, and support youth to take climate action on their campuses.
Our members and partners
The BC Campus Climate Network is comprised of campus organizations who are working toward climate solutions and sustainabilty across the province, and is facilitated by the Sierra Youth Coalition, Common Energy, and the UBC Sustainability Office. Many other organizations make up the Network - check out the Knowledge Base to learn more about our partners.

Get Involved with the Network
The Campus Climate Network wants to connect with you. You can hop on a Network call to hear what other campuses are up to, or attend a conference or Network Summit. Or you can volunteer for a working group, or the goBEYOND Steering Committee. No matter what path you choose, getting involved with the Network can be an awesome learning experience! Our Governance Structure
The Campus Climate Network has always prided ourselves on being a grassroots organization with participatory decision making. Our Steering Committee makes administrative decisions, but all long term strategic direction is set by Network participants - the students and young people who are involved with the project. These decisions are made in a variety of venues:
- Project Development Summit
- Procedure for Making Policy and New Programming Decisions
