According to the BC Ministry of Advanced Education[1], Douglas College [2] is "a major community college with campuses in New Westminster and Coquitlam, offers a wide variety of associate degrees, career programs, university transfer courses, college preparatory programs and customized training. Douglas College also provides specialized short-duration courses for students who need to upgrade literacy or study skills, or who are interested in short-term continuing education courses." [3]

Policy

Douglas College passed a policy in 2001 stating that "Douglas College is concerned about the quality of the natural environment, and building a sustainable society. As such, the College has a responsibility to enable the College community to become knowledgeable about the environment, and to become environmentally responsible. To educate by example and to demonstrate good environmental citizenship, College operations will make all reasonable efforts to be environmentally sound." [4]

Institutional Structure

  • The Environmental Sustainability Task Force (ESTF) composed of faculty, staff, students and administrators.
  • The Manger of Site Services of New Westminster Campus is responsible for the Environmental Policy, which mandates the maintenance of an Environment Committee to develop, implement and monitor the College's Environment Policy and initiatives, including a Green Plan.
