Who's Playing?

Claire Butterfield has a passion for all types of music, and plays several instruments, including violin, percussion, and guitar. She has been writing songs for four years, and has settled on a folk/jazz/acoustic rock style. She is currently studying piano with May Ling Kwok at the Victoria Conservatory, and just completed her Grade 10 RCM piano exam. As well as playing music, Claire has a passion for all forms of leadership, and is part of the sustainable high schools project. You can also catch her playing the Sustainable High Schools song in our film.

Masoko Tanga is Victoria's up & coming Police tribute band. The band features Vaughn Stokes on bass, guitar and lead vocals, Sean Thompson on drums and vocals, and Steven Taddei on lead guitar and bass. The band has been running strong since January of this year. Dedicated to paying tribute to their heroes, Masoko Tanga has managed to mix Police originals with live improvisations, original harmonies and Sting arrangements. The band is on the road to becoming an original band, but right now is thoroughly enjoying playing the music of their idols!

Blue Tie Consortium is a musical partnership between Myles Thomson (piano, melodica) and John Russell (bass, drums). These two crazy cats have been playing together for a few years now and have performed at numerous assorted locations from the Empress Hotel's Crystal Ballroom to the asphalt of the Moss Street Paint-In. Their new parternship was formed to put themselves into unprecedented musical scenarios, to interact more frequently and euphorically, and to test the limits of their playing and writing. The Consortium typically performs as a trio or quartet, rather than duo, and so various diversely ecstatic musicians are featured alongside John and Myles. This Sunday, July 13th, Blue Tie Consortium will be joined by Aidan Knight on guitar and Danny Costello on drums. You may have heard Mr. Knight in a host of ensembles including his performances and recordings under his own name, Ginger Balls, Maurice, and Black Tie Social. And as for Mr. Costello - I'm sure you know him from the delectably elated band, Vincat. This particular configuration of musicians has never been realized until now, so we are extremely stoked to be able to perform at Market Square for this delightfully rapturous fundraiser.

Michelle Brown is a talented musician in her 2nd year at UVic, studying creative writing and English. She plays keyboard for R&B/funk group District of Soul and has been writing music since she was 13.
