Project Manager Position



Job Classification: Part-time position (20 hrs/wk)

Start Date: January 18, 2009

Position Title: goBEYOND Project Manager

Application Deadline: January 3rd, 2010

Wage: $17 - $21/hour, dependant on skills and experience

Location: Flexible, in British Columbia



The Project Manager is responsible for coordinating the implementation of the goBEYOND Project on college and university campuses across BC. With the support of the goBEYOND Steering Committee, the Project Manager must ensure an inclusive and participatory process for project evaluation, development and implementation, support staff and volunteers in the roll-out of the project, demonstrate accountability in project administration, and ensure long-term financial stability for the project.



Project Overview:


The goBEYOND Project is created and implemented by a network of student leaders from post-secondary schools across BC, and is supported collaboratively by Common Energy, the UBC Sustainability Office, and the Sierra Youth Coalition. The project seeks to:

   * Educate students about the science and solutions for climate change in B.C.
   * Inspire youth to “make carbon smart lifestyle choices” that reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
   * Engage youth in creating larger climate solutions, particularly in participatory planning processes to move our campus communities beyond climate-neutral.
   * Support youth groups to implement initiatives that will change behaviour and help create climate solutions.

These goals are achieved through the following 4 project pillars:

   * Training: Increasing the ability of students and youth organizations to do this work by providing relevant skills training, accessible toolkits, and mentorship
   * Planning: Creating space for youth to lead their institutions in collaboratively planning a low-carbon future.
   * Education: Working to establish curriculum that is engaging, community-oriented, and creates regional climate change solutions in all spheres
   * Challenges:  Offering easily adaptable projects for campus organizations that would like to directly reduce greenhouse gas emissions while engaging their community

You will be responsible for:

   * Overall Project Management
   * Program Development and Coordination
   * Management of Staff
   * Ongoing evaluation of project
   * Fundraising
   * Reporting on project outcomes to project partners/funders


Preferred qualifications
   * 3 years working in the environmental or youth engagement field, or equivalent school experience
   * A strong understanding of climate change issues
   * Effective facilitation and volunteer coordination
   * Experience working with youth led projects
   * Effective project management capabilities
   * Experience in fundraising and financial management
   * Self directed, pro-active, motivated and enthusiastic
   * Creative, quick to learn and open-minded
   * An excellent written and oral communicator
   * Capable of taking initiative and working in a flexible work environment
   * Knowledge of the Campus Climate Network and our project partners
