Reynolds Secondary
From ClimateNetworkWiki
Reynolds Secondary School joined the SHS Network in 2007 through the efforts of teacher Heather Coey, who soon got students leaders Anna Slater and Felicity Wilson involved. Both helped organize and attend the 2007 SHS Youth Action Gathering, joined the SHS Youth Steering Committee and again helped organize the 2008 Go Beyond Youth Action Gathering through the post-secondary program stream. Both graduates have brought new faces into the SHS Network however, and Emily Morin and Tessa Buttemer are now leading student efforts at Reynolds in 2008-2009.

Sustainability Advisory Committee
Reynolds Secondary created a SAC called the "Green Group" and decided to focus on improving the green spaces around the school. Check out our Green Group initiatives!
Sustainability Assessment
In 2006-2007, Planning 10 classes worked on the Energy and Economy & Wealth Indicators, and Reynold's is now looking at evaluating the land indicators, which go along with the Green Spaces project.
Sustainability Initiatives
The “Green Group” has formed a partnership with UVic’s Environmental Studies program, Leadership Victoria, and Life Cycles Growing Schools program to rejuvenate and restore outside the school and the inner courtyard. They began planting native species outside of the school, and in early June 2008 had their official groundbreaking ceremony.Check out our Green Spaces project!
Reynolds also ran a waste diversion awareness campaign, a monthly e-waste and soft plastics recycling program and farmer market. They held a very successful “Cops for Cancer” fundraiser and a Buy Nothing Day clothing swap, donating clothes collected to a homeless shelter. In 2009, Reynolds will be building a garden and piloting a partnership with ReFUSE in order to compost all of the school’s food waste.
Engaging Classes with the Sierra Club's Education Program
In 2006-2007, three of Reynold's Planning 10 classes hosted 2 visits of SHS's Water, Energy and Economy & Wealth Class Programs. In the fall of 2008, Ms. Coey's new Environment and Sustainability course will be featuring parts of the SHS curriculum.
