Check out how we formed our Sustainability Advisory Committee, the E-team, in January 2007, what we did for Earth Week 2007, and Earth Week 2008!
Sustainability Advisory Committee
Our student and staff E-Teams met together last year but have yet to do so this year. However, we have chosen priorities for this year and formed working groups around them. These groups are:
- Water
- Waste
- Food
Also, SMUS parents are interested in contributing with a soft plastics recycling program and an anti-idling campaign.
Sustainability Assessment
Each working group has chosen several relevant indicators from the HSSAF which they wish to complete this year.
Last year we completed an energy audit on the boarding houses, but have yet to convert the energy consumption results into GHG emissions, and also did a waste weigh-in.
Sustainability Initiatives
- Food Projects: organic luncheon, greening of the tuck shop (snack bar) with metal cutlery etc., local/ethical purchasing policy for our cafeteria
- Water: Change to low-flow showerheads in boarding houses
- Waste: put more compost bins around campus, soft plastics/e-waste pick-up
