- Check in: Hopes for 2009 and trash anecdotes.
- Tom Owens the new Director of Sustainability
- Update about how cool TRU is and all the things that are going on here without significant awareness raising.
- Environmental Advisory Committee student reps
- We need to vote two, so far Bonnie and Vanessa Montagliani have expressed interest in being the student rep. We will ask for other nominees and have a vote that lasts four days.
- Logo debate
- Ann has crafted up some great logos. For the next 2 meetings the people who come will get to vote. If you can’t make it to the next two but really want a say in the vote please email me and I will hook you up with Ann to vote.
- Alternate meeting time
- fill out the google doc to see what time woks best for everyone. Vanessa Montagliani offered to organize finding the right time.
- Sustainable Campus Conference
- Feb 6th to the 8th in Abbotsford. We should ALL go !! Bonnie is going as well as Kaitlin and one other person. Will send a reminder in one week to register. Tom offered to rent a car maybe get TRU to fund it so we can all carpool. There is billeting and the cost for this should be very low. There is a $45 registration fee but food is included in that.
- Water Bottle sales
- We need to sell more bottles. Tabling maybe? Also maybe hooking up with BUGS to sell them with Valentines Candy Grams. Water bottles are $10 each and $4 of that profit goes to TRU. We have 125 and when we sell them all we will make $500.
- TRU eco president
- Call for anyone wanting to fill this position. Bonnie is happy continuing as chair and Vanessa Montagliani expressed interest in co-chair. Please email if this interests you.

- Inventory of environmental content in class work
- Bonnie will maybe work with ACE to plan this.

- will consult with Solamita and Kia to see if they are still interested in planning this

- Bonnie will work with the Environmental Advisory Committee Education working group to implement this. May need volunteers for the future.

- due to expected bad weather and unreliable transportation, they won’t be playing.
- discussion whether or not to postpone concert, or book local bands instead.
- within the concert group, it was decided to go ahead with next Wednesday’s plans, and Sam will look after band bookings.
- BC Sustainable Campus Summit, Oct. 28
- Carly was present to take sign-ups for Summit. Ian (>25 yrs. old) has volunteered to drive a rental vehicle.

- Review Mission Statement

- Audience
- Focus on TRU students, but can expand if needed to include TRU (the institution), and the community.
- Student can be divided into 3 distinct categories:
- Already engaged
- Fence-sitters
- Rednecks
- Discussed: whom to target? Rednecks not impossible, but worth the effort?
- ECO-Committee Image
- Not going for a tree-hugger, protest-oriented image.
- Will take a partnering vs. lobbying approach.
- Focus of club is to encourage individuals to make smarter decisions (not “environmentalism”), which translates into efficiency, thus cost savings at a personal level.
- How to Sell the ECO Concept?
- Focus on personal/economic benefits – ie: more money for beer.
- Ryan; trick people into recycling – ie: brewing beer vs. buying beer = significant savings.

- Concerns that the newspaper may be green-saturated; alternate ideas discussed include: closed-circuit TVs, the city newspapers, partnering with existing Tips-writers to improve content.
- Discussed: forming a team responsible for generating print material (tentatively Tria and Sam to head it). Articles/features would be stockpiled for subsequent use.
- Must have a system of quality control in place; this means an editor that reviews all material prior to release.

- Must decide between “Go Green. It’s easy.” and “Because Green is more than just a colour.”
- Future Events
- Discussed: a fashion show featuring Value Village, used clothing, hemp clothing.
- Rick suggests bribing trades students with beer to model clothing.
- Chuck thinks hot female models will draw our male audience – could partner with TRU’s cheerleaders.
