Our vision

The University of Victoria contributing to the creation of a sustainable campus and community.

Our philosophy: Why are we doing this?

We believe in:

  • having fun
  • education to foster personal growth in a sustainable direction
  • the exchange of ideas between co-existing groups on campus and in the community
  • setting achievable goals leading to lasting change
  • visible change on a local level will inspire global initiatives

Sustainability is:

Practices that balance the social, economic and environmental aspects of our lives in order to reduce our impact on the earth and live in a way that won’t deplete our resources for the future

Our objectives: How are we going to do this?

We will:

  • provide an opportunity for students to gain experience in a non-profit setting
  • encourage a friendly, healthy, open environment for student involvement
  • catalyze student and community-borne sustainable projects
  • have a visible presence and create concrete change at UVic and in the Greater Victoria area
  • collaborate with groups from all disciplines to achieve our goals
  • be transparent and accountable by outlining goals
  • foster ethical and sustainable decision-making in campus planning and individual lifestyle

Projects: Past, Present and Future

  • Earthfest: A celebration of environmental initiatives on campus that brought together diverse groups interested in making our society more sustainable and gave students a chance to learn about what is being done in the environmental movement.
  • Disposable Container-Free Day: A day where the issue of overconsumption of disposable containers on campus is brought to light and where reusable containers and reduction of waste is emphasized.
  • Alternative Transport Days: A series of events geared towards decreasing the dependence upon single-occupancy vehicle traffic to and from campus.
