Wind power is an alternative energy resource referred to in discussions about climate change and the need to move away from fossil fuels. Wind power is one of the fastest growing alternative energy resources worldwide, and makes up a significant portion of the energy regimes of some European countries such as Denmark and Germany. While wind power does have some advantages, such as being renewable and having no emissions, it also has drawbacks, such as unreliability and difficulties with grid connection. The Capital Regional District wants to diversify its energy sources as part of its Community Energy Plan, and the viability of wind power as a potential alternative energy source in the CRD is currently under investigation.
